Aldo Londi

Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was born in Montelupo, Italy. He started working at ceramics workshops starting at the age of 11.

After taken prisoner in South Africa during WW2, he returned to Italy. In 1946, he was appointed artistic director at Bitossi. Where he paid attention to the evolution of taste and with his thirst for knowledge and innovation he gave expression to his own creativity by creating thousands of designs for vases, jugs, candlestick holders and objects over his 50 years in this position. His best-known collection is in the 'Rimini Blu' color designed 1959, inspired by the blue Adriatic Sea. Londi was, as he loved to describe himself “a man of work”, who devoted his entire life to ceramics, which he considered as an everyday companion.
