Toni Zuccheri

Toni Zuccheri (1936-2008) was an Italian designer and glass artist. Born in San Vito al Tagliamento in Italy’s Friuli region, he was the son of the painter Luigi Zuccheri, a member of de Chirico’s circle, and Jolanda Zuccheri, the sister of the poet and philosopher Giacomo Noventa. He studied architecture at the University of Venice under the tutelage of Carlo Scarpa, Franco Albini and Bruno Zevi, among others.

Zuccheri took an interest in glass, and at very young age started working at Venini were he invented and reinvented working techniques, shapes and colors. His collection of glass birds was exhibited at the 1964 Biennale in Venice. In 1965 he met the architect Gio Ponti, and the two collaborated on stained glass windows. Over the course of 40 years, in addition to unique items, Zuccheri executed small production series, including lighting for Venini, VeArt, Barovier and Toso.
