Contemporary, 2010 design

Austria

Whiskey/water tumbler made from hand-cut lead-free crystal, part of the drinking set No. 248 designed by the architect Adolf Loos in 1931 and reimagined by Helmut Lang for the MAK ART SOCIETY (MARS), where thirteen artists of our time interpreted the water tumbler of the Drinking Set No. 248. Artists are Heimo Zobernig, Manfred Wakolbinger, Eva Schlegel, Markus Schinwald, Georg Salner, Arnulf Rainer, Peter Noever, Helmut Lang, Brigitte Kowanz, Jenny Holzer, Franz Graf, Gregor Eichinger, Gunter Damisch

Adolf Loos was ahead of his time with this clear, uncompromising concept of form. This tumbler service is made with a so called brilliant pattern on the base. Each line is still cut by hand and carefully matt-polished. This series paved the way for modern glass design and is another Lobmeyr classic since 1931.  For the "Mars" tumbler Helmut Lang did a black version of the design, hand enameled onto the mouth-blown glass with Adolf Loos' signature engraving on the bottom of the vessel.
